As a result of the government shutdown, the DC Marriage Bureau has suspended all courthouse weddings due to staff furloughs. Marriage applications can still be submitted and picked up, but no wedding ceremonies are being performed by the court until the shutdown is over. This has left dozens, if not hundreds, of couples who had previously scheduled a courthouse wedding ceremony in October or November out of luck.
After discussing it with our team of wedding officiants, DC Elopements is now offering a “shutdown special” to any couple who had a courthouse wedding scheduled in October or November:
We are offering an elopement ceremony to any of these couples for $100, with 50% of the proceeds from this special donated to the Human Rights Campaign. This offer is only valid for couples who previously had a wedding scheduled at the Moultrie Courthouse in DC during the months of October or November. We will be conducting these ceremonies between 1pm and 4pm this Friday, October 4th and between 2pm and 4pm next Friday, October 11 at a location near the Moultrie Courthouse in Northwest DC. Ceremonies will be scheduled in the next available time slot on a first-come, first-served basis, and additional dates may be added if necessary.
Contact us as soon as possible to schedule your make-up ceremony and we will provide you with additional details!
